Music Technology Academy

The Music Technology Academy is jointly headed by Phil Curtis & Ian Dent. Phil has worked with Elton John, Kiki Dee, John Lennon, Alice Cooper and Muse. Phil trained at Room 335 studios in Hollywood with Larry Carlton and worked in both Electric Ladyland Studios in New York and for Virgin at Olympic Studios in London.

Ian Dent ran his own successful ‘Daylight Studios’, as well as acting as a leading UK consultant in the music business. He is a professional member of the UK Music Producers Guild and a media anthropologist from the University of Cambridge. Ian has over 20 years experience in the music business both as a recording studio owner and as a producer/engineer who has worked on projects with such artistes as John Renbourn, Beth Gibbons, Thom Yorke, Guy Mitchell and a host of bands throughout the UK, Sweden, Iceland and South Africa. He is currently engaged in research into new forms of collaborative music technology using Grid super computing. As an experience mentor of young musicians with an impressive track record, he has been able to focus the emphasis of the music technology courses firmly on encouraging creativity through technological competence.

The Academy of Music and Sound offers music technology courses that are firmly focussed on developing the skills necessary for effective creative music writing and sound recording. Students in every area of work in the Academy of Music and Sound are actually encouraged to engage with music technology as a tool for personal creative development. In addition, the Academy of Music and Sound also runs dedicated courses for those who may either want to simply improve their skills, or those with an interest in pursuing a career in sound recording or in electronic music composition.
